Snow Walkers Gazette

Message from the President

Hi Don, this is Patrick Gleason. How are you?” 8:15 P.M., Oct. 6, 2003…
“Oh, hello, I’m fine.”
“Uh, Don, I was wondering what the deadline was for the newsletter.”
“Today.”
“Oh.”
“But don’t worry I’ve just been writing your submission and it is particularly good.”
Right…the Sultan of Slander is in full stride already. If I don’t get something in the newsletter, Wily Wales will write for me. Great, all kinds of compromising, embarrassing scenarios at my expense.
“Look, if I e mail you something first thing in the morning, can you include it?”
“Welll, but it has to be in by noon at the latest.”
“Okay, thanks a lot, Don”
Yeah right, thanks a lot, Don. So, plugging away frantically at the last minute…again.

So as another fine day greets us and the temperatures soar to the high twenties, one’s natural instinct is to think about skiing, at least if you’re a member of the Parkland Cross Country Ski Club. Welcome to another season! Your executive has been hard at work planning another exciting season, actually Mike Spencer has been hard at work planning trips, Nicole Sam has been hard at work reworking the registration form and recording minutes, Claude Sam has balanced the books to the penny, Dick Pawloff has been working on our web site, Mike and Patty Carley have hosted the first executive meeting and designed a poster to advertise the club. Don Wales and Bob Johnstone have tirelessly championed our cause and railed against the River Bend Golf Course expansion all summer. Your President continues to use every minute of his spare time to coordinate the activities of these individuals and to offer sage advice when needed. Thankfully there have been few phone calls.
Anyway I should end with, “I hope to see you at our October meeting”, but I won’t be there. I leave you in the very capable hands of Mike Carley and hope to see you in November.
