General Meeting

Welcome & Vice Presidents Report:  Vance (Mike Spencer -Absent)
            Welcome & Intro.
Reports:
            Treasurer’s report:  Dick announced the balance as of November 11/08 in the general account is $1,853.49/Loppet account is $1,426.23 and the club GIC balance is $1069.00. See treasurer’s report for Associate account balances. We have 68 adult members & 19 kids.
Motion was not made to approve the treasurer’s report – tabled to December meeting.

            V.P report.  Vance-working on setting up dates for course on avalanche-safety training Level 1-sometime mid Nov. to mid-Dec., Brian will do an introduction to Mountain touring at our December meeting.  Map & Compass – Brian Davies-Nov. 27 & Dec. 4/08.  GPS – Brian Davies – Dec. 11-backcountry not auto., Mountain Weather-Brian Davies-Jan. 9/09., Crevasse Rescue & glacier travel-Mike Spencer – Feb. 18 & 25/09., Sewing class-fleece mitts or hats-Marilyn Strilchuk-Tues or Wed. evening at her house, Marilyn is also teaching beginners sewing course for Lindsay Thurber Community programs on Monday nights starting in the New Year. Fruitcake baking-Vance’s house Nov. 15/08 at 1pm. Limit 12 people-2 spots left. Cost is $15.00 & you get a fruitcake & the recipe to take home. If you want to stay while the cakes bake bring some snacks & refreshments & we’ll sit around & talk & watch movies while they bake.  Saturday, Nov. 22/08 Banff Centre is offering a Back Country Avalanche Safety Trng., the cost is $20.00 & first come first serve. Has seating for 200 people.  Vance absent for December mtg.

            Social Committee:  People have signed up to bring snacks to all the upcoming meetings. Thanked Vance & Peggy for bringing snacks this evening.

            Day Trip Chairman:  (Absent) Linda is working on a schedule if anyone is interested in leading a day trip please contact Linda. 

            Web Master:  Nothing to report at this time.  Keep him informed of any trip updates.
Mountain Tour Chairman:  Reminded members to contact tour leaders to sign up for trips, not him. 2 more spots need to be filled for Campbell Ice fields to get discount.
Publicity: Nothing to report at this time.

1.      New Business

  • Loppet- Feb. 7/09 – Don is willing to groom someone to take over loppet for 2010 as this will be his last year to run it. The same goes for Race Registration and Results as this will be the last year for Dick Pawloff to handle these tasks.   
  • Work party at Heritage Ranch on November 16/08 – cancelled-already cleaned up.
  • Ski lessons will be on Jan. 12, 14, 19, 21/09 with make up day 26th.  Mon/Wed, Linda, Don & Mike are willing to teach again this year, need a couple more people to help.
  • Next general meeting will be on December 8/08 at Kerrywood Nature Centre @ 7:30pm.
