Parkland Cross Country Ski Club

General Meeting

Welcome & Presidents Report:  Review activities, see executive if you have any questions. 

Reports:
            Treasurer’s report:  Dick announced the balance as of Oct. 13/08 in the general account is $1,396.41/Loppet account is $1,426.23 and the club GIC balance is $1069.00. See treasurer’s report for Associate account balances.
Motion to approve the treasurer’s report made by Brian, 2nd by Pam. All in favor.

            V.P report.  Vance-working on setting up dates for courses on avalanche/gps/mountain touring & crevice training. Dates to be scheduled.  Marilyn is willing to show anyone interested in learning basic sewing with fleece, contact her for further info.  Vance will be hosting a fruitcake party on Saturday, November 15/08. contact him for further info.  Vance is also collecting training resources if you have any that might be beneficial to him contact him to discuss.

            Newsletter Editor:  Brian discussed anyone seeing anything that needed correcting or wanted to comment on the newsletter, feel free to contact him.  Deadline for the next newsletter will be the 4th weekend of the month, send info such as trip reports etc. via email.

            Social Committee: Sandy mentioned sign up sheet would be available during break for anyone interested in bringing snacks to our upcoming meetings.  Discussed sign up sheet available for anyone wanting to contribute with chili or other items for trail clean up on November 16/08. 

            Day Trip Chairman:  Linda is working on a schedule if anyone is interested in leading a day trip please contact Linda.  Don Wales is leading a day trip on November 11/08 contact him if you are interested in going.

            Web Master:  Nothing to report at this time.  Keep him informed of any trip schedule changes.

Mountain Tour Chairman:  Steve discussed new approach for signing up for trips.  We pay when we sign up to eliminate problems with no shows & someone waiting to get on list.  Schedule is complete for current season.

Publicity: Nothing to report at this time.

1.      New Business

  • Loppet- Feb. 7/09 – Don is willing to groom someone to take over loppet for 2010 as this will be his last year to run it. 
  • Work party at Heritage Ranch on November 16/08 – contact Don if you can help out.
  • Pine Tar & paraffin party (prep skis for the season) Nov. 9/0 at Don & Marie’s place – contact Don for further info on time etc.
  • Ski lessons will be on Jan. 12, 14, 19, 21/09 with make up day 26th.  Mon/Wed, Linda, Don & Mike are willing to teach again this year, need a couple more people to help.
  • First Aid course – Brian Davies is working on this with Janice. This will be for tour leaders and if anyone else is interested please contact Brian.
  • Vance is hosting a “make his famous fruitcake” party on Saturday, November 15/08 @ 1pm at his place.  Contact Vance to sign up, cost is $15.00/per person.

 

2.      Old Business

  • Motion to fund up to $1500.00/ea for 2 people to go to an Avalanche 1 course out of the touring account.  This motion has been passed by the executive at the May 29/08 year end executive meeting.  Needs to be passed at general meeting to come into force.
  • Brian motioned that we fund up to $1500.00/ea for 2 people to attend an Avalanche 1 course with funds coming out of the touring account. 2nd by Pat, all in favour.
  • Next executive meeting will be Oct. 28/08 at Linda Dickins, 7:30pm at 27 Oyen Crescent 403-342-1913
  • Next general meeting will be on Remembrance Day, November 11/08 at Kerrywood Nature Centre @ 7:30pm.
