General meeting for the Parkland Cross Country Ski Club
Mike Spencer called the meeting to order at 7:38.
Pres: Mike notes there are many new faces and asks us for older members to introduce themselves to the newcomers.The presentation for this meeting is the folks from Valhalla.
VP report: Vance indicated sign up sheets for courses were available at the back of the room. The U of C was also offering a one day avalanche course November 14 for $20.
Treasurer: dick submitted the treasurers report, see attached. Terry Ferster moved to accept the report, Frank Weber seconded the motion, carried.
Mountain Tour Chair: Steve clarified that cheques or money are required to confirm members’ spots on tours, and that this requirement had not been in force. Additionally the Hostel Association has changed its cancellation policy. Up to 2 weeks before a trip any beds may be fully refunded. After that only 10% of beds booked can be fully refunded with a minimum of 48 hours notice.
Steve asked for approval for $333.97 to pay the yearly fee for the satellite phone. Pat Gleason made a motion to approve the cost, seconded by Terry Ferster, carried.
The club has 20 Trackers, 9 of which were recently purchased. Brian Davies motioned to donate the 18 old club beacons to the Canadian Avalanche Society, seconded by Pat Gleason, carried.
Newsletter Chair: Brian is having a few problems with pictures sent into the newsletter. He asks we send the highest resolution pictures we have. The course dates and trip info in the newsletter are now correct. Cut off for submissions is a few days after the executive meeting.
Publicity Chair: Richard asked if his advertising had been seen. He brought the archive binders from the ‘80s for people to look at.
Social Chair: Pat thanked Mike, Richard and Lorna for snacks tonight. He asked for those interested in planning for a Progressive supper/Ski to come and speak to him at the break.
Day Tour Chair: Linda is leading a hike tomorrow from Riverbend. Other trips and lessons as previously posted. To sign up for ski lessons you must register through the City in December.
Pam and Don are hosting a Waxing Party on Sunday15 December’
