Don Wales called the meeting to order at 7:40
1. REPORTS:
President:
Don welcomed all members and outlined the agenda for tonights meeting.
Treasurer:
Claude presented his Treasurers report and reported that at this time we have -$177.00 in the general account.
Claude announced that he would be collecting membership fees at the back and has membership cards available. He encouraged new members to pick up a copy of last months newsletter.
Vice President:
Mike announced that course sign up sheets were posted at the back. The cost for courses was $5.00/night.
Social Committee:
Brian thanked Barb and Dianne for tonights goodies. He reported that the Dec meeting will start in the centre but then adjourn to McKenzie Trails for a hot dog roast.
Newsletter:
Terry reported that the newsletter is available in full color format on the website. He encouraged members to access the newsletter through the website to save mailing costs. Members were also encouraged to submit articles.
Webmaster:
Dick reported that the clubs new web address was www.parklandxcskiclub.org
Day Tour/Lessons:
John reported that day tours will be held on Sundays and asked for volunteers to lead local day tours. Day tours will be scheduled on local trails starting in November. If there is no snow, the trail will be hiked to help members become familiar with local trails. Day tours will be listed in the newsletter. .
Ski lessons will be run in January at River Bend and will be advertised in the City Winter Recreation guide. Don and Mike have volunteered to teach these lessons. A third instructor may be needed (depending on numbers).
Publicity:
Dale reported that posters have been posted at City recreation centres, All Sports replay, Valhalla and KerryWood Nature Centre. The club is also advertised on local radio stations and in the Red Deer Advocate/Express. Dale is working on getting club pictures published in the newspaper.
Mountain Tour Chair:
Jane reported that the first trip of the year went out last weekend to Saskatchewan Crossing/Nigel Creek area. Great fun was had by all.
DOW Chemicals has approved our request for $500.00 to support the SAT phone.
Bob briefly described his trip to Ramparts Creek members were encouraged to let him know tonight if they wanted to join that tour.
Jane reported the cost for the hostel is subject to change the amount they charge depends on the number of people who booking and how far in advance the booking is done.
Don encouraged all members to sign up for a mountain trip.
BUSINESS:
Waxing Party:
To be held November 19th at Dons. Information posted in newsletter and on website. Don invited members to join in a Greycup pizza party following the waxing.
Local Skiing:
Don reported that he has self track set a look at Barret Park and encouraged members to go and ski!
A loop has also been track set by the ball diamonds at Great Chief Park.
Heritage ranch track not yet set.
Bob Johnstone Bench
Members were invited to donate money for a memorial bench and plaque for Bob.
Don adjourned the meeting and members were treated to a presentation from Valhalla re: new materials and cool Christmas ideas..
