| Mountain Tours | Newsletter | Photo Gallery | Parkland Cross Country Ski Club Meeting called to order at 7:35 p.m. Reports: Past President’s: Don will be organizing the Bob Johnstone Loppet this year. It will be held on February 6, 2010. The Loppet will be downsized to become more of a local event. Because lots of volunteers are needed to run the event, there are no tours scheduled for that weekend. The volunteers will be needed between 8 a.m. to approximately 2 or 3 p.m. A sign up sheet will be distributed at the January 2010 general meeting. Treasurer’s report: The Club had income from membership fees of $590 last month with expenditures of $371 for CCA registrations and $132.82 for Web Hosting Domain. Membership numbers are 129 including Red Deer Nordic plus 19 Jackrabbits. Account balances as of Dec 8 are: General Fund, $2431.03; Loppet, $1426.23; GIC $1109.09; for a total of $4966.35 available to the Club. Associate Accounts are: Biathlon, $57.76 and a $1000.00 GIC; Jr. Jackrabbits, $1652.70 for a total of $2710.46. V.P report. A couple of courses have already taken place. 8 people took the transceiver course. Two sessions of the map & compass course took place last Thursday. Sign up sheets for winter weather and snow caving are posted at the back of the room. The classroom portion of the snow-caving course will take place over the holidays and the field portion in January or February. If you are interested in the snow-caving course, talk to Mike Spencer or Brian Davies. Snow caving is a prerequisite for the TL 1 course along with a few others. Newsletter Editor: Brian requested input for the newsletter. The next deadline is the end of the month. Social: Pat acknowledged the people who brought the snacks for this meeting, Nicole Sam, Dianne Rasmussen and Marilyn Strilchuk. Day Trip Chairman: Linda announced ski lessons will begin in January. Check the poster at the back of the room. Sign up is with the City. Several people have volunteered to assist Don with the lessons. Day tours are scheduled for this Thursday at Heritage Ranch at 1 p.m., January 2 at JJ Collett, February 7 at Pigeon Lake and Feb 27 at Cooking Lake. Mountain Tour Chairman: Mike filled in for Steve. The Molar Meadows tour on the weekend was described and advertising for upcoming trips to Elk Lakes Hut and Nigel Pass took place. Publicity: Advertising for this meeting took place as indicated by the good attendance despite the weather. Richard asked for stuff to put into the club’s history books, particularly pictures. New Business: There wasn’t any. Mike announced that the club pulk, which is suitable for towing your little children behind you while skiing, is available from Jenni Spencer. Following adjournment and a short snack break, Vance gave a slide show on his trip to the Blanket Glacier Hut which is located south of Revelstoke. |
