WIND-UP GENERAL MEETING

MINUTES

Pat opened the meeting at 7:00.

EXECUTIVE REPORTS:

Vice President: Don Wales
thanked Brian for his work over the year on training courses
reported we now have the new snowmobile – many thanks to Bob Johnstone
updated members on Bob Johnstone who has been very sick in hospital and requested people keep him in their thoughts and prayer
Treasurer: Jenni Duke
year end is end of February – books show a $4000.00 deficit
waiting on registration cheque from city for Jackrabbits
Don and Marie Wales will audit books with Jenni next week
Have approximately $500.00 in general account
Newsletter: Terry Ferester
Thanks to all members who submitted pictures and articles
Next year will not be publishing members last names in newsletters

Thanks to everyone for their cooperation bringing goodies etc. to meetings
Webmaster: Dick Pawloff
Reported that he has been having difficulty with web page over past few weeks
Showed members history book he and his wife Connie are maintaining for the club and indicated it was available to puruse tonight.
Presented Mike Spencer with the “Picture of the Year” award.
Mountain Tours: Mike Spencer
Reported there was good participation in the mountain tours this year – 156 people
Plans to have more beginner trips next year
Reviewed trips that have already been booked for next year (Family Day Weekend – Stanley Mitchell Hut – 12 spots; Campbell Ice Fields- Week long trip 16 spots) and encouraged members to sign up now if interested.



SAT Phones:

Mike reviewed safety concerns and the benefits of having a SAT phone for members

Mike moved that the ski club purchase a SAT phone with attachments, the specifics to be determined by the ad hoc committee with the addition of Steve Davis

Mike moved that the trip/float fund charge be increased to $8.00/weekend and $4.00/day for tours over two days in duration.

NEW BUSINESS:

Terry Ferester moved that the club purchase high quality walkie talkies to support back/front communication on trips.

Terry was informed that the club can not entertain this motion at the AGM as motions costing over $50.00 needs to go to the executive first. This motion will be forwarded to the next executive meeting for discussion.

Election of New Executive:

Pat thanked the departing executive: Cups to be presented to outgoing members as soon as the firing is completed..

Pat invited nominations for the following positions:
President: Mike Spencer nominated Don Wales, seconded by Claude Sam.
Vice-President: Don Wales nominated Mike Spencer, seconded by Dick Pawloff. Treasurer: Barb Spencer nominated Claude Sam, seconded by Dave Rideout.
Secretary: Bonnie agreed to stay on for another year.
Mountain Tours: Carol nominated Steve Davies, seconded by Mike Spencer
Newsletter: Terry Ferster agreed to stay on for another year.
Publicity: Dale Ferguson agreed to stay on for another year.
Social Directors: Carol and Brian graciously agreed to stay on for another year.
Day Tours/Lessons: Jenni nominated John Duke, seconded by Mike.
Webmaster: The infamous Dick Pawloff agreed to stay in this position for another year.

The above slate of officers was presented to the membership and elected by acclamation.

Pat thanked outgoing executive and tried to present pottery cups of appreciation however he was foiled by Mike. “Cups” of another sort were offered up however members agreed to be patient and collect the right cups as soon as their firing is completed.

PLG Award:

Claude Sam shared a list of possible nominees for the above award: Don , Richard and Al along with stories that earned them the honor of being nominated. The award was presented to Mike Spencer for his many accomplishments over the year and it was renamed the “Lifetime Achievement Award”.

Appreciation awards

Mike and Barb Spencer thanked club members for all the support and help they received at the time of Barb’s accident. In appreciation, they presented a cheque for $600.00 to the club to go into the Tour Leaders Account and also donated a couple of new trackers to add to the club kit.

Don Wales presented Pat with a copy of Chic Scott’s latest book “Powder Pioneer” in appreciation of all his hard work in the capacity of President.


Pat adjourned the meeting after thanking the membership and wishing everybody a great summer.
