Executive Meeting
At C. Sam’s House
September 22, 2009
Minutes
Present: Steve Irwin, Claude Sam, Mike Spencer, Dick Pawloff, Linda Dickin, Vance Buchwald, Brian Davies
Absent with regrets: Don Wales, Pat Gleason, Sandra Vradenburgh, Lorna Townell
Executive Reports:
- Treasurer’s report. General funds are down about $1000 compared to this time last year. The rental for the Kerry Wood Nature Centre for general meetings has increased by $100 to $750 this year.
- Newsletter: There are 2 trip reports from last season to go into the next newsletter. Brian is looking for photos to go into the newsletter. The annual work party will be advertised in the newsletter pending word from Don.
- Mountain Tour Chairman: There is currently $2740.32 in the Mountain Tour account. A deposit has been paid for the Skoki Lodge trip in February.
- Day Tour Chairman: A club listing has been put into the City’s fall activity guide. The City wants a waiver (acknowledgment of risk) signed by lesson takers. This means the lesson takers will need to sign the city’s waiver and the club’s waiver as well. The loppett will be on Feb 6, 2009. Dates for ski lessons will be announced but they will need to be completed by Jan 23 or there will be a conflict with the Blanket Glacier trip. Linda will establish a few dates for day tours even if it’s for a walk and check for response.
- Vice President: Nothing to Report
Old Business
Steve moved and Dick seconded that we accept the revised Policies and Procedures manual. Thanks to Dick and Don. The motion was voted on and passed.
- NAMs: (Non Assessment Modules)
- TL2 candidates will need to teach some of the NAMs such as Map & Compass, snow caving, etc. A list will be published by Brian in the Newsletter.
- Avalanche awareness (at least AST 1) should be taken by all TL candidates. It could be from the U of C or Yamnuska. Vance will set an appropriate date and contact the people who need to take the course.
- Some TL1 certificates have not been delivered to some from the last TL1 course. Claude will check the club files for these certificates after getting the files from Peggy Gougeon.
New Business
- Mountain Tour Schedule. The tour schedule was checked and modifications made. We will need to find a strong assistant TL to replace Karen Weisgerber on the Skoki trip. The in-town part of the TL course will be the same weekend as the Loppett.
- Brian moved and Linda seconded that the schedule as amended be approved by the executive. The motion was passed.
Trail Work Party Date: October 18 has been tentatively scheduled.
- Pine Tar and Parrafin Date: Don to follow up.
- Purchase of New Trackers: Steve has determined that Valhalla has the best price towards the purchase of new trackers, the price being approximately $260 each including tax. Club members wishing to purchase their own trackers should purchase through the club to get the same price. As a bulk purchase, it will cost $2333.39 for 9. Claude moved and Linda seconded that we approve the purchase of 9 trackers. The motion was carried.
