Executive Minutes from Parkland Cross Country Ski Club
October 27 2009, at Steve and Sandy’s home

Minutes approved, motion by Steve Irwin, seconded by Richard Townell, so moved

Reports

Pres: Mike has a meeting with Riverbend and Jeff Stoyko on November 4 re our agreement with the Association.

VP: Courses; the TL2 has been cancelled for this year.
TL2 candidates are required to help teach the following courses to members and TL1 candidates.
TL1 runs February 26-27 and March 5-6-7.
Map and Compass and GPS will run Nov. 17, 25, and Dec.25. Vance will book classroom space at LTCH.
Mountain Weather course will run after Christmas, this will be a one night class.
Snow caving and winter camping, dates TBA before TL1, and requiring one classroom session.

Cross Country Alberta will be contacted re insurance coverage for courses.

Treasurer: Dick submitted the October Treasurer’s report. We have money and about 65 members to date with 35 of those being adults.
$119.40 is the fee required by November 5 to renew our website and domain name. Pat Gleason made a motion that we pay the fee and Mike Spencer seconded the motion. Motion approved.

Mountain Tour Chair: Steve submitted the Mountain Tour Account.
He has ordered 15 trackers from Valhalla. Six of those trackers were on behalf of club members and have been paid for in advance by those members. Nine trackers are for the club.
Cheques and a cheque book have been purchased for a cost of $40.
The updated schedule has been posted with Greg Olsen as the assist for Skoki and the removal of the TL2 course.

Newsletter: Dick asked for an article on trail etiquette, Steve suggested a reprint from a newsletter 2 years ago. Also requested were descriptions of candidates’ requirements for beginner, intermediate and advanced trips.
Brian has a trip report from Sask Toe and asked Pat for a report from the trail clearing. He reminded us that editor means there is something to edit.

Publicity: Richard will be making a poster to advertise the club. He requested copies of the newsletter for archiving, and received a box of archive material.
Mike thanked Richard and Pat for spearheading the trail clean up at Riverbend.

Social: Pat reported the trail clean up was successful. The sign up sheet for snacks is full. Valhalla will present at the November meeting and Vance will present his Blanket Glacier Trip in December.
The Pine Tar and Paraffin Party is being hosted by Pam Ralston and Don Newsham 22 November. Details are forthcoming after consultation with Pam.
Discussion of a possible progressive dinner and ski later in the year.

Day Trips: Linda has 5 day trips planned so far; November 11, December 5 and 10, February 7 and 27.Discussion of other possible day trips including Raven and moonlight ski. Membership is not required for day trips but a waiver is required.
The ski lessons have been submitted to the RD Winter Activity Guide. Volunteers to help with lessons are required.
Lesson dates are January 11, 13, 18, and 20 with a make up date January 21. Posters for lessons are being produced with the help of the City.
