THE PARKLAND CROSS COUNTRY SKI CLUB

EXECUTIVE MEETING
November 28, 2006
MINUTES

PRESENT: Don Wales, Mike Spencer, Bonnie Robertson, Dick Pawloff, Claude Sam, Dale Ferguson

ABSENT: Patrick Gleason, Brian Davies, Jane and Steve Davies, Carol Lindner, Terry Ferster, John Duke

REPORTS:

Vice President: Mike Spencer
Mike reported on ski club courses:
An Avalanche Transceiver course will be held at Mike Carley’s on Wednesday ( 8 participants).
A Map and Compass course will be held on Thursday and the following Tuesday (11 participants)
A GPS course will run December 7th.
Greg Nelson has agreed to instruct a telemark course. Mike will set up dates. Cost to participants will include $5.00 course fee + lift ticket + share of instructor’s lift ticket.

Treasurer: Claude Sam
The club has received a $3000.00 cheque from the city for track setting. Claude will forward funds to Mark minus cost of insurance for new snowmobile.
Claude will e-mail a treasurers report to exec. as soon as possible – needed current bank statements to complete.
73 members have signed up for the club to date. Only 9 of these members have requested hard copies of the newsletter.
Sr. Jackrabbits (Alberta Nordic) now have their own bank account.
Bonnie requested to revise April 11/06 AGM minutes to clearly indicate that the presented slate of officers was elected by acclamation. The bank requires this for signing authority.

Publicity: Dale Ferguson
Dale continues to encourage paper to take pictures of club activities. Will attempt to get coverage of cheque presentation by Kinsmen and Don Johnstone’s bench.

Social Directors: Brian Davies and Carol Lindner
Planning for Dec social is completed. Coffee/Hot Chocolate and Hot Dogs will be provided.

Day Tours/ Lessons:
Don will check into cost for ski lessons to be held in January. Mike volunteered to run a day tour on December 27 at 1 pm on college trails. Don will try to set one up for Jan 7 at Jarvis Bay. Plans to ask members to meet at 1 pm at the Rec Centre parking lot.
Don will talk to John about contacting members personally to request they lead a day trip.

Mountain Tours:
Don clarified costs for Kilmorey ski trip: cost for the lodge and meals is $169.00 for two nights. Revised costs will be posted on Web and in newsletter.

Newsletter: Terry Ferester absent

Dick reported new hosting services will cost $138.00/year including domain name registration.
Dick provided Bonnie will information on Server for club files.
Claude moved that Dick’s expenses for printer cartridges (history book), web hosting and Loppet posters be covered fro up to $80.00 /year. Dale seconded CARRIED
Dick recommended we stop running the Photo of the Year contest. Recommendation accepted.

OLD BUSINESS:

Loppet meeting: Don and Dick have started planning for Loppet. It has been registered with River Bend. Fees will remain the same. Posters will be ready for January Meeting.
Kinsmen payment for snowmobile: Don has not yet been successful in contacting the Kinsmen for final payment. Will continue to pursue.
SAT phone: $500.00 donation from DOW received. The club can re-apply for this support again net year.
Bob Johnstone’s memorial bench and plaque: Members raised $195.00 at meeting + several late donations received. We raised enough funds for plaque with $35.00 extra. The remaining money will be put towards plaque to be displayed at Loppet.
Re-naming River Bend trails: still pending.

NEW BUSINESS:

Snowmobile insurance options/ownership: Club will keep ownership of snowmobile for now. Will pay for insurance out of Honorarium received from city. Don will arrange for insurance.
January General meeting planning: Mike and Barb will present re: dried food preparation.
Ski Meeting on Dec 7th with City: Don will meet with city recreation representative to discuss proposal for city to take over track setting. Will also be meeting with Riverbend to discuss trails etc. Riverbend planning to dispense with fees for this year however will have a box for voluntary donations.
Newsletter distribution proposal from Mike Spencer: Mike’s proposal to e-mail current newsletters rather than have them posted on the web was discussed. Executive agreed to leave as is for now.

Meeting Adjourned. No December meeting. Next Executive mtg: Jan 23 at Claude’s home (108 Ackerman Cres).
