Executive Reports:

  • Past President:  Nothing to report.
  • Treasurer’s report.  Total Parkland XC Ski Club funds as of Nov. 24 are $4916.35.  Membership fees collected to date are $500 balanced by expenditures of $331 to CCA for fees and $132.82 for web hosting.  There are currently 81 club members, 3 jackrabbits and 40 Red Deer Nordic ski club members for a total of 124 members.
  • Mountain Tour Chairman:  There is currently $4529.36 in the account.  10 maps of Mistaya have been purchased for the map & compass course and 6 maps have been purchased for the TL1 course.  19 of our old avalanche beacons have been donated to CCA.  Steve is preparing an inventory of club equipment.  The pulks right now are at Jenni’s and Mark Chant from Bowden.
  • Vice President:  Good turnout of 14 for the map 7 compass course.  18 are signed up for the avalanche beacon course tomorrow night.  13 are signed up for the mountain weather course tba and 11 for the outdoor camping course also tba.  There are 7 interested in the TL1 course.  There is 1 opening left on the Blanket Glacier trip.
  • Publicity:  Next meeting and Vance’s report on the Blanket Glacier to be advertised tomorrow.  Publicity materials were handed out for distribution to various locations.
  • Day tours:  4 day trips are on the schedule.  9 persons came to the Riverbend tour including 3 non-club members.  4 people have signed up to help Don with the ski lessons.  Pigeon Lake is scheduled for Feb 7 and Cooking Lake for Feb 27.  Don is looking at the JJ Collett area with a date tba.

Old Business

  • Don’s report on our relationship with Riverbend.  The new tracksetting agreement doesn’t include our club anymore.  It allows stuff to be done with volunteers.  Skiing will be allowed on the golf course but the route has not been established as yet.  The prior agreement that we could hold our meetings at the clubhouse has been rescinded. The stipulation that we can run events at River Bend is still in effect  in recognition of the contribution the club has made in obtaining the grants for the snow machines, equipment, and trail construction.
  • Disposition of Heritage Ranch snowmobile.  Don will talk to Mark Meunier as to the future disposition of the Club’s snowmobile.

New Business

Disposition of Club GICs.  Both GICs are maturing shortly.  Both will be allowed to mature to increase liquidity of the club’s funds as the interest income at current interest rates will be minimal.  The biathlon people are in agreement as they wish to make improvements to the course.

Some people felt that the club could wind up with insufficient funds to run the club in the future.  Some discussion ensued but there is insufficient data available to make conclusions on what should or needs to be done.  This will be a topic of future discussion.

Next Meeting:  TBA.
