Executive Meeting
January 22, 2008
Minutes

Present: Steve Irwin, Sandy Vradenburgh, Don Wales, , Dick Pawloff, Steve Davies John Duke, Peggy Gougeon, Jane Davies, Brian Davies
Absent with regrets: Claude Sam, Pat Gleason Mike Spencer, Dale Ferguson &
Executive Reports:

• Treasurer’s report.  Claude absent – only have up to Nov. 30/07 info Don will forward current info to Peggy.
• Newsletter: Terry can no longer look after newsletter as he is very busy so Brian Davies has volunteered to look after our newsletter,  Pat has volunteered to help with copying & mailing out to members with email (8 or 9). Brian will print colored copies for them. Send trip reports etc. in pdf format or word. Try & send info to Brian by the end of the third week of the month.  Would like to get next newsletter out before loppet deadline so that members know for sure that the loppet has been cancelled.
• Should have copies of newsletter available at all meetings-Dick will email newsletter to Pat & he will make 25 copies-20 for meeting & 10 for mail outs.
• Discussed if we need a newsletter every month-yes but it doesn’t have to be a whole lot even a couple of pages would be fine.
• Web Site:  Dick can maintain our website newsletter & web pages with info he knows on new program.  We will revamp in the fall, would like to see trip reports on web site with pics on cover page. Need photos with location, date, etc. Brian & Dick will work on this.
• Publicity: Dale absent-Don will contact Dale & see about notice of cancelled loppet for the newspaper.
• Social – Steve & Sandy-loppett cancelled– Presentation for Feb. meeting – cooking tips for backpacking & backcountry food. Suggested we line up members who have ideals to stand up & state something they like to bring on trips or a favourite recipe. Sandy will send info to Brian for the newsletter & he would like to mail out the newsletter by Jan. 28/08.  Sandy will email members. Don volunteered to do one, Steve Irwin will do one.
• V.P. Report: Mike absent. Brian in the middle of GPS training to be completed next Thursday, Jan. 24/08.
• Day Trips:  21 people out for ski lessons last night, Wednesday is the last night for lessons.  No new day trips.
• Carol & Brian will check the trails in Innisfail for a day trip.
• Suggested skiing Burke Trail in Edmonton for a day trip on Feb. 2/08-Don will follow up with newsletter & web page.

Old Business
Club Meeting entertainment: Suggested we start next year & give people an overview of  tour leaders experience, pics of easy tours. Take advantage of email contacts & get members to send pics for presentation.

                              ideas on nutrition & low cal.
March                        slide show.

Cross Country Ski Signage – emergency meeting at Riverbend on Jan. 14/08,      
Complaints-Riverbend put up no trespassing, private property to keep people on
perimeter trail & off of the greens. Signs have been taken down.

• Motion:  That the ski club executive approves the updated mountain tour

      2007/2008 schedule as of January 28/08 as posted in the club newsletter and on       the club web site.  Motion made by Steve Irwin, Seconded by John Duke.  All in       favor.

• Dick questioned why we had members sign up so early for Lake Ohara trip

       scheduled for next Dec. 2008. We already have a waiting list of seven & he was       concerned new members would miss out.

• Jane mentioned that Margo was checking into setup up a trip to Maligne Canyon

       in Jasper.  To be confirmed. Dates not know yet. Jane will know by Friday
      Jan.25/08-need 2nd tour leader if trip is a go.

New Business

• Loppet  cancellation-clean up-Don will follow up with anyone who signed up &

      let them know it is cancelled. No expenses. Will put signs up on trail heads.

• Sport Volunteer Award of Merit-Deadline Friday, Feb. 1/08, Shelley Demars       was nominated by Don, all were in agreement. Don will complete the paperwork       & contact the Jackrabbit Leaders.
• Wellness Fair: Feb. 8/08 from 1pm to 4pm at the Roland Michener Centre       Theater at 51A Street & 38A Ave. Promote holistic wellness, invited us to       attend       to showcase what we have to offer. Don will check if we’re not too late to       attend       & Sandy will check if Frank can work the booth for us, he would have to       set up       & take down & we would have to decide what to present.
• Annual General Meeting –April 8/08 Sandy will check with Carol Wallace @       340-3070 to confirm date & cost of renting hall for this date & from 6pm to 9pm.

      We will put a notice in the newsletter & the phone committee will check who       wants to bring what.

• Meeting Room-costs at Kerry Wood Nature Centre –possible return to River       Bend now that they have a new & improved facility. According to our agreement       with Riverbends Society we can hold our meetings there for free.  We might       revisit this next year.  Don will check into & discuss at next meeting.

• Next executive meeting on February 26/08 at Brian & Carol’s place in Innisfail. 4935-46 St. (227-4409)
