2014 Fondu Foray

By Jock M

The Fondue Foray (fondue held at the Ribbon Creek Hostel) and Ski Trip (in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park) was held on the weekend of January 17 and 18, 2014.

In attendance: Nancy B, Celia H, Janet M, Jock M, Amanda M, Karen M, Phil M, Trudy M, Dianne R, Janet R, Marilyn S, Lorna T, Richard T, Frank W, Todd W, and Ron D

Our leaders: Marilyn S & Richard T

We were warmly welcomed by hostel host, Anita and her cat.

Friday night supper for many of the gang was fine dining at the Kananaskis Resort

Friday night was spent getting settled in the dorm, then relaxing by the fire.

The well-‐stocked kitchen was waiting for the early-‐morning risers . . .

And the not-‐quite-‐as-‐early part of the gang.

Frank got everyone’s attention when his foot slipped on the step into Todd’s sweet-‐ smelling diesel truck (notice the rapt expressions) but all’s well that ends well. I’d say Frank looks pleased with his hug from Janet.

Ron D summiting the first big hill on our Saturday trip to Elk Pass in Peter Lougheed Park. (okay, this pic was taken on Sunday but it’s the same hill.)

On the trail up to Blueberry Hill. Snow conditions were excellent with great tracks.

The view from Blueberry Hill. Janet and Jock On the way back . . . alongside Fox Creek.

The Fondue Foray was aptly named and lived up to its billing. By the looks of the gang afterward, it was a fantastic day from beginning to end.

On Sunday, everyone made individual decisions based on who was driving in which vehicle, who wanted to go where, who hadn’t done any shopping, etc.

These two final photos show the youngsters who were the children of three Calgary couples who shared the lodge with us. They were great kids and a reminder to all of us slightly older folk of the excitement and energy of youth.
